Even In Death 3

Femi knew she was hopelessly in love…for the first time ever in..her existence. Wale was the centre of her universe. Her darling who could do no wrong.

She discovered Wale was in the school on a partial scholarship. His parents were dirt poor and he had to do odd jobs during vacation to make ends meet. Femi was determined to help him as much as possible and so, her allowance plus monies she made by the side, she shared with him. They were like two peas in the pod. From year three they started winning the couple of the year award on campus up until they graduated.

Femi discovered Wale wasn’t good at the practical aspect of Mechanical engineering and decided to do his project work for him, as a result he got a distinction and this adhered her to him even more.

Service year brought about a separation. Femi was posted to Lagos through her father's influence whilst Wale was posted to the north. Femi had tried to persuade her father to influence her lover's posting but her father was vehement..he kept saying Wale was a man and should learn to stand on his own.

She had noticed her father had misgivings about Wale. He told her he felt she could do better but Femi was dead to discussions of that kind. Wale was her first and last bus stop. She would love him until she died.

Working as a corper in the state ministry was easy peasy as she had little or nothing to do. She decided to travel to see Wale who was posted to Abuja. She took the first flight out on a Thursday morning intending to take the first flight back on Monday morning to meet up with work.

Wale met her at the airport and took her to the flat he shared with three of his male corper friends. He had made her favourite…fried rice and coleslaw and she ate ravenously. He afterwards borrowed the car of one of his flatmates to drop her off in a hotel already booked for her.

At the hotel, he helped her with unpacking and sorting her things. Waited for her to shower before leaving promising to come back later in the day. She slept for four straight hours when he was gone and woke up with a start for she had had a bad dream.

In her dream she had seen blood flowing and she was in the centre of the flow, it appeared the river of blood was conveying her somewhere until she woke up. She was perplexed. What could the dream mean? She made as if to call her mother but changed her mind, whilst she was a deeply spiritual person, this dream would only make her worry. She didn’t want her mother worrying on her own account. She knelt to pray against the spirit of death for that was what she thought it was. To take her mind off the dream she decided to take a swim at the pool. She changed into her swimming trunk and with a robe over it she made her way down to the pool, downstairs.

Wale came back in the evening. As he strode towards her at the bar, she admired his gait, his height and his polished good looks. She told herself she was very lucky and idly thought of the beautiful kids they’d both sire, together.

He planted passionate kisses all over her face as she giggled happily. All was well with her world
